Ludington, MI Lighthouse and Pier

I’m back to blogging after a very long hiatus.  I apologize for my absence and hope you will forgive me for missing so many of your posts.  I also now have a facebook page (Nick Bromley Photography), an Instagram account (@nickbromleyphotography), and a website: www.nickbromleyphotography.com

Below is a late evening shot of one of my favorite lighthouses in Michigan, largely because I love green lights and also because this looks like one tough structure.

Apocalyptic

IMG_7995

This photo was taken from Grand Haven, MI on the shore of Lake Michigan.  There’s a power plant far in the distance spewing water vapor into the atmosphere.  A long exposure made this look really apocalyptic to me, which is a fun exercise because this is in fact a beautiful beach and town.

This is the Grand Haven pier beneath the Milky Way, taken in August. The bright object in the sky to the left of the lighthouse is Mars. The orange glow to the right emanating from the horizon is likely from Chicago (southwest of where this photo is taken).

Fall Colors Peak in West Michigan

I really lucked out last week.  The waters of the Grand River were still relatively warm, the air temperature was below freezing, and the river was breathing a fine mist.  I could not have asked for better atmospherics for the 45 minutes I had to take photos. www.nickbromleyphotography.com

Austin, TX

I was fortunate to visit my hometown for a conference this week.  Austin is growing so fast that every year affords a new and beautiful view.  It doesn’t feel foreign, though, as the city retains the quirky character I knew as a young man and a kid.  I still love it. IMG_7720

ArtPrize 10: West Michigan Through a Southern Lens

Good Morning! I have entered nine photos into the ArtPrize 10 art competition in Grand Rapids, MI. They’re on display at Sweet Yo’s Frozen Yogurt Shop downtown. The competition lasts for two weeks (9/19 – 10/7) and spans the entire city. Entries can win based on either the public vote (voters must be physically in Grand Rapids) or a juried vote. If you live in the West Michigan area, I would be grateful if you would check out my entry in person. If you live outside of the area, I would still appreciate you checking it out. Here’s a link to my entry: www.artprize.org/66668. Any “likes” or shares are helpful! Thank you!
